Easter eggstravaganza predicted!

on Wednesday, 09 November 2016.

We are predicting a big rise in artisan decorated eggs for Easter 2017 as independent retailers look to claim a fat slice of the UK’s £200m chocolate Easter egg market by trading up to create a point a difference with supermarkets.

“The supermarkets have captured the value end of the market with price driven deals that make it impossible for independent retailers to compete,” says Peter Martin, managing director for House of Sarunds. “So instead of getting into a price war, our advice is to stock premium lines from artisan suppliers which are not routinely available elsewhere.”

Artisan chocolatiers are becoming even more creative with eye catching decorated eggs using inclusions such as nuts, dried fruit pieces, caramel, popcorn and chilli to add texture and a new flavour dimension to the chocolate.

“Shell and filled eggs will always be popular and although they should be the mainstay of an Easter range, retailers should look for some key ‘stand out’ statement pieces with the WOW factor to create a point of difference and really help drive sales,” explains Peter.

The House of Sarunds’ Easter range features luxury handmade eggs from Stas, the award winning Kent based chocolatier including a large 40cm high milk chocolate egg filled with salted milk chocolate eggs: and super large 70cm high milk chocolate sweetie Easter egg; exclusive Guylian assorted chocolates in ‘Little Guy’ gift box 200g; exclusive flame wrapped Van Roy milk chocolate egg with salted caramel and marc de Champagne truffles 360g; exclusive Van Roy basket of foiled end filled Italian mini eggs 375g; and exclusive Van Coillie funky Easter milk chocolate tablet in cut out bunny carton 250g.

We recommend displaying Easter lines immediately after Valentine’s Day stock is cleared from the shelves, covering all price points and stocking for all age ranges. A mix of gifting items such as premium adult eggs, selection boxes and impulse purchases such as filled eggs, mini eggs and novelties work best.
